A vibrant organization, Uttarayani is an Association of officers from Uttarakhad. People who have limited time beyond-office time and meager finances for big things. Yet, people with an urge to preserve their roots and an earnest desire to see their homeland prosper. People with a sense of pride that they hail from Uttarakhand and a feeling of oneness with emigrant Uttrakhadis who are unwittingly drawn into the cultural wasteland of big cities.
Formed in 1992 by the like minded Class-I officers of Central Govt., PSUs, Autonomous Bodies, Uttarayani is a non-political organization. The annual Souvenirs are highly qualitative and impressive. The achievements of Uttarayani are more done than said. Uttarayani has solid pillars in its foundation.
Uttarayani, as its mission statement says “A society dedicated to the development and betterment of our State – Uttarakhand”, has the potential of keeping its top position as a strong Society. The members are empowered to do what the Association aims at. Thousands of social organizations of 25 Lakh people in Delhi belonging to Uttarakhand envy 'Uttarayani' for it can make big impact at the functioning of the State, through dynamic members from the Corporate world and existing Class-I cadre, who are more than 6,000 in numbers in Delhi. Uttarayani interact with the other societies & Associations and play a role model for them. Uttarayani also plans to encourage its members to visit rural schools and spend some time there to show them the dreams to grow big as also adopt or get few villages/smaller projects adopted by the Govt./NGOs and individual members.
There are challenges before the present governing body to motivate its members to contribute in terms of their involvement. Uttarayani is a voluntary organisation with collective responsibility of its volunteers to look at their stakes in the progress of the Association. Uttarayani as an organization would not be able to achieve its aims and objective on a sustainable manner until and unless its respectable members take more creative initiatives, wherever, they may be and whatever may be their current position. It needs to incubcate admiring value system by acton and have faith in the ‘CAN DO’ approach.
However, not withstanding the achievements so far and getting complacent with the same, the fact remains that there is lot to be done and achieved at the State and Organizational levels by the adolescent Uttarayani. While multi – faceted potential of Uttarayani has amply been exhibited in the fields of – organizational capabilities and fostering feelings of mutual co - operation and comradeship among Uttarakhandis; we need to focus on the following aspects: -
The task - list could be longer and unending as also dynamic. However, an impressive beginning has already been made and let all of us forge ahead with the implementation of the dynamic 'perspective plan'; chalked out. Perhaps the words of Robert Frost would be befitting under the prevailent circumstances - "... I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep." Uttarayani is definitely poised for the unparalleled growth and achievements under the successive Managements and fully committed Executive Committee.
We have no doubt that Uttarayani as an elite organization would play a vital role in the growth of our dreamland and betterment of it's people. Our united and concerted efforts would soon realise each of Uttarakhandi's dream of better living and bright future, because we possess the required Will - power, dedication, capability, enthusiasm and strength to achieve; as also advised by Swami Vivekananda - “Stand up, Be Bold, Be strong. I know what you are - the creator of your destiny. All the strength and succor you want is within yourself”
